It has 500 species of resident and migratory birds, 20 species of mammals, over 525 species of butterflies and over 11,000 species of moths, beetles, bugs and other insects.
The flora covers a wide and diverse range of plants ranging from Bryophytes, orchids, rare climbing plants, ferns, lichens, fungi, medicinal herbs and shrubs. A cluster of pristine lakes set against the captivating surroundings of dense oak and pine woods, Sattal in the state of Uttarakhand unfurls the rustic beauty of the Lower Himalayas. At an altitude of 4000 feet Sattal, also pronounced as Sattal proffers an unruffled environment with abundance of natural flora and fauna.
Calm and quite ambiance of Sattal makes this sleepy locale in the outskirts of Nainital as a most memorable and impressive tourism spots. Pangot on the other hand is located about 15 kilometers from Nainital, which is a popular hill station. The drive to here passes through the forested area of Cheena Peak Range via Snow View Point and Kilbury, which are excellent birding spots. India is famous world over for its rich flora and fauna. Pangot is one such beautiful hamlet and walking into Pangot is like stepping into a remote Himalayan village. The Sundarbans mangrove forest, one of the largest such forests in the world (140,000 ha), lies on the delta of the Ganges, Brahmaputra and Meghna rivers on the Bay of Bengal.
It is adjacent to the border of India’s Sundarbans World Heritage site inscribed in 1987. The site is intersected by a complex network of tidal waterways, mudflats and small islands of salt-tolerant mangrove forests, and presents an excellent example of ongoing ecological processes. The area is known for its wide range of fauna, including 260 bird species, the Bengal tiger and other threatened species such as the estuarine crocodile and the Indian python. Join us to explore these Magical Mangroves by boat, maybe you would get to sight the swamp Tiger too!!
